Spectatorship Presentation: pleasure,
emotion, techniques and subject matter
Activity:
1.
List your
favourite genre, favourite film star and your favourite film of the year and
favourite scene.
2.
For each,
explain in as much detail as possible the emotional response each has drawn
from you. (How do you respond emotionally to the typical situations and typical
characters found in your favourite genre?).
3.
Are there any emotions you know you will be
expecting to experience when you sit down to watch one of these genre films?
4.
How do you
respond emotionally to the types of roles played by your favourite star? What
are your emotional expectations when you see their name attached to a film?
5.
What was the
range of emotions that your favourite film made you feel? Can you recall a particular scene, or
exchanges between characters, that elicited a particular emotional response
from you?
6.
Analyse a scene
in detail exploring: subject matter, your expectations, pleasure (or otherwise),
techniques used and emotional response elicited from you. Speculate as to
whether other spectators would respond in a similar way.
7.
Make a presentation with images to show in
class (min 6 slides). Thurs 2nd Feb 2017.
